What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a program in Australia run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). It is designed for eligible Australians who have a permanent and significant disability, providing funding for reasonable and necessary support and services to help them achieve their goals. The NDIS works with partners in the community, such as Local Area Coordinators and Early Childhood partners, to deliver services and support. If someone is eligible for the NDIS, they become an NDIS participant and receive funding to work towards their individual goals outlined in their NDIS plan. If someone does not meet the eligibility requirements for the NDIS, they can still receive support and access community and government services through information provided by the NDIS and its partners.

How to access the NDIS

1. Check your eligibility.

Find out about the NDIS Eligibility checklist on their website and what other services for you if you are not eligible.

2. NDIS and other Government Services:

All individuals in Australia with disabilities have access to various government services such as education, healthcare, employment, legal assistance, and family support. The support available through the NDIS may differ from what was previously provided by state or territory authorities. The NDIS represents a fresh approach that empowers participants to select and manage the support services they need to engage in community activities, work, and social interactions.

3. What is an access request form:

The Access Request Form is the form you complete to apply for the NDIS when you cannot be supported by an NDIS partner to apply.

Working with Providers

A provider refers to an individual, company, or organization that offers NDIS-funded assistance to participants. Providers bring diverse areas of expertise and experience. It is crucial to select the appropriate providers to fulfil your requirements.

Providers registered with the NDIS are overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. All providers, whether registered or unregistered, must comply with the NDIS Code of Conduct.

It depends on your type of funding; you can choose either NDIS-registered providers or unregistered providers for service delivery.

Empowering Ability Journey is currently providing services for participants who self-manage or have a plan manager to manage their NDIS plan funding.
